Pumpkin Patches

Since Halloween is coming up and fall has just started, pumpkin patches are now open. Here are some local pumpkin patches you can go to starting with Borchard Farms in Salinas. Not only do they sell different types of pumpkins but, they also have a little farm with chickens, pigs and other animals which can be fun for families. For little kids they have jump houses and other activities to do.

Another local pumpkin patch is also in Salinas called Triple F Farms. They have jump houses as well but they also include face painting and a ride on a little train around the park. They have many varieties of pumpkins to choose from and a corn maze. If you're hungry, they have food trucks too. The admission to get into Borchard Farms is free but for Triple F Farms is $5 a person and ages two and younger are free. I asked a student, Kevin Cemano, a junior at Seaside High School, if he would recommend going to any local pumpkin patches to someone who has never gone. He responded, ¨Yes because if you go with your family, there´s good family stuff.¨

Places to go Trick or Treating

Some good spots to go trick or treating are Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, Monterey, and Carmel. If you go to those places while trick or treating you might get lucky with your candy. Somewhere else where you could go trick or treating is any local store centers or businesses (specifically in the Lighthouse District on October 26th). Kimberely Becerril, a sophomore in Seaside High School was asked if she has ever been to these areas trick or treating. She replied, ¨No, I just moved here from Watsonville and only went trick or treating in that area. This year with my friend though I am going to go to those places, hopefully Pebble Beach.”

Haunted Houses and Halloween Events in the Area

If you don't have anything planned on or before Halloween there are some events going on too. On October 25th on Cannery Row in Monterey, the Rotary Final Friday Halloween Party is happening. There will be food, music, and a costume contest. Also on October 25th in Watsonville is Halloween Weekend IV they have trick or treating and site decorating. An anonymous  junior at Seaside High was asked if she enjoys going to any Halloween events and she responded, “I do like going to Halloween events. I like getting free candy. I also like seeing everyone in their costume.”An anonymous senior in Seaside High has similar feelings and replied, “Yes because Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I like feeling the Halloween spirit.” When asked about Halloween events, They  replied, “I just found out about Halloween on the Wharf, it's on Halloween and it's at Fisherman's Wharf. I'm going to go. I´ve never been before, but I know they’re going to have a costume contest and there's gonna be like a DJ and trick or treating and stuff.”
