What People Really Think of the Seaside High Environment.

Students and Teachers had a lot to say of what they actually think of the Seaside High School. Every school has its pros and cons. This article explores the positives and negatives about Seaside High School. Seaside High School has a population of 1,121 students and mostly serves the LatinX community. This school has undergone many changes in the last few years. For example, the school has tried co teaching for four years but had gotten rid of it this year due to too many students and one class. Claudia Lopez, a Spanish teacher, believes that it is better this way and easier on teachers as she says,“classes have a better size compared to last year.”

A junior  here named Kevin Aquino had to say that overall he does not like Seaside High School and thinks the campus is “too strict.”  His reasoning behind it is that he is upset about the fact that he is not allowed to order DoorDash due to a campus monitor reminding him he simply wasn't allowed to order food to campus.

Other students agree with Kevin as well because some don't have the time to pack lunch in the morning before school due to other responsibilities or they live far away. On the contrary, the school banned Doordash because of the lack of safety as it is easy access for people to come on campus. This issue could be prevented by more gated areas and fences surrounding the school and staff around the entrances. Something positive Kevin has to say about Seaside is that he loves the “community and people here.” He especially loves his fellow junior classmates. Rosalia also had to say she loves the positive and energetic environment from the school and the people.

Claudia Lopez who teaches Spanish 1 and 3 had to say that she feels comfortable and that the classes have a better size compared to last year. Compared to last year it was co teaching and classrooms held about 40-50 students in one class. Except now classrooms only require 1 teacher and the minimum would be 24 students per class. Something else positive she had to say was, “it's a nice campus and we have a nice beach view.” The school has a very nice campus with murals and our whole campus facing the beautiful bay area. Something she thinks could be fixed is the open campus and she would like “more fences” around the school.

Rosalia is in her senior year and has a lot of experience and stories since her freshman year at this school. To her she would describe Seaside to have a very positive and energetic environment. Her example was that she feels that the people have a lot of energy and seem to make positive relationships. It was noted in the recent rally that students really like the activities that were happening on the basketball court and the grade levels were either cheering and booing for the people on the court. This rally really highlights the energetic school climate.

Another teacher, Kalyn Lee, has been a Physical Education teacher at Seaside for seven years and is the head coach for the swim team and stated that this has been her “best year of teaching.” Something she loves about her job is her students because her students are very “unique to any other place she has taught at.” Coach Lee believes her students are happy and are “willing to engage in activities.” For example, she notes that her new freshman class does very well when it comes to doing units like basketball. During basketball students become very competitive to do anything to win and show lots of collaboration and teamwork during a game. During class and when doing activities  Although she works as a Physical Education educator she would love to see more grass over the fact that she strongly dislikes sand and ice plants. This problem impacts Lee’s students from playing grass sports like  soccer and football.

In summary, it is important to understand what is going on in our school and how everyday students and teachers comprehend how Seaside High School is as a school and people actually do enjoy their school and programs the school has to offer. Seaside has a wonderful community and it should not be deceived on false information that is spread around.
